ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) – A sexual battery charge against St. Bernard Parish President David Peralta has been dropped, the parish clerk of court’s office said Tuesday.
The charge stemmed from an alleged incident that happened October 27, 2013 with Peralta’s now ex-wife Sharon Schaefer.
Peralta was fighting criminal allegations made by Schaefer on two fronts — in St. Bernard Parish and in St. Tammany Parish. Peralta still faces a felony charge of stalking in St. Tammany Parish.
The State Attorney General’s Office tells WGNO that St. Bernard Parish charges are still an “on-going matter.”
Previously, a gag order prevented attorneys in the case from commenting. But Peralta’s attorney Martin Regan says that order is now lifted and he expects to issue a statement on Wednesday.
