IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (WGNO) – A 30-year-old geography and civics teacher is accused of having sex with three students, the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office reports.
Keavin Keith faces 2 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, 5 counts of felony carnal knowledge and 30 counts of prohibited sexual conduct between at educator and a student.
On Monday, a former student told authorities that she had a sexual relationship with Keith while she was a student. After questioning, the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office discovered that Keith also had sex with two other students, some as young as 15-years-old.
“It was like an asteroid that just fell to earth last night. I didn’t sleep a wink,” MSA Principal Elvis Cavalier told WBRZ. Cavalier used to call Keith an extraordinary teacher.
Keith was a teacher at Math, Science, Arts Academy-West and received the High School Teacher of the Year award in Iberville Parish for the 2013-2014 school year, according to the South Plaquemine Post.
Cavalier said Keith has been placed on unpaid leave and depending on what happens with the investigation, he could be terminated.
