NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – High school football games are about to get a little louder.

On Tuesday, the Tipitina’s Foundation made a surprise delivery to two music programs in need.  Landry-Walker High School and GW Carver High School were given a total of 75 refurbished instruments.

This was all part of the organization’s Instrument Repair Initiative. The Tipitina’s Foundation collected unwanted instruments from across the country and fixed them up to look like new.

Landry-Walker’s director of bands is more than grateful. “It’s always special to get instruments, to put instruments in the hands of kids. We’re talking about saving kids’ lives. I’ve been preaching this for quite some time. A kid with an instrument in his hands is not a kid with a gun in his hands,” said Wilbert Rawlins.

The Tipitina’s Foundation says they’ve received requests for about 15,000 instruments from music directors across Louisiana.
