NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Fans of both LSU and South Carolina showed how much they cared on Saturday by donating more than $40,000 to support disaster relief efforts in South Carolina.

The canisters set up outside of Tiger Stadium were filled with both cash and checks. The donations that were received will be used to give food, shelter, health supplies and plenty more to residents of South Carolina that are struggling to recover from the flooding.

“We appreciate LSU providing the opportunity for the can shake, and we are overwhelmed by the generous giving of our community to make such a powerful difference,” Alessi said. “Though the Tigers won on the field, we’re sending the Gamecocks home with Louisiana love. We’ve been there, and they will be resilient because of support from near and far.”

People can help by donating to Red Cross Disaster Relief to support disasters big and small by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
