BATON ROUGE (WGNO) — The Louisiana Fire Marshal’s office is warning people when it comes to the holiday fireworks season.
The fall fireworks season is underway through midnight on New Year’s Day.
The fire marshal is reminding people who fireworks can cause serious injuries and damage to property. For example, sparklers can reach temperatures of 1,200 degrees.
Also according to the fire marshal, the group most at risk for injury is children under five years old.
Fireworks fans are encouraged to follow their written instructions, wear safety goggles, obey all local laws, make sure an adult supervises all fireworks activities and never gives them to children, and to never consume alcohol while lighting fireworks.
The fire marshal also says you should only shoot fireworks in a clear, outdoor area and keep a bucket of water and water hose nearby. Also, should a firework fail to fire, wait 20 minutes then douse the “dud” with water before disposing of it.
