NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Krewe of Muses announced on Monday (Jan. 11) that Solange Knowles will serve as the krewe’s Honorary Muse for 2016, leading its parade on February 4th. She will ride on the Krewe’s 17-foot tall, fiber optic red pump float.
“It is a true and incredible honor to be the 2016 Honorary Muse. I am immensely humbled to join such an inspiring organization that celebrates such diversity, leadership, and philanthropy,” Knowles says in the krewe’s news release.
“The Krewe of Muses and I share the same passion for rejoicing in the overall magic and bad-ass-ness of girlhood and all of the many ways we are able to express and embody being women!”
Solange was born in Texas but has roots in Louisiana. She moved to New Orleans in 2013 to be closer to those roots, she says. Along with her work in the music industry, she is also well known as the little sister of superstar Beyonce Knowles. Solange is also active with nonprofit and charitable organizations in New Orleans.
The all-female Krewe of Muses was founded in 2000 and has more than 1,500 members. This year’s parade is set to roll at 6:30 p.m. on the Uptown route.
