NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The Discount Zone in Kenner near Williams and 33rd has gas going for $1.39. That was the cheapest WGNO found in the area. But you’ve probably noticed the low prices around town.

Can you believe, just a year ago, (according to AAA) we were paying nearly $2 for a gas of gallon in New Orleans (around a $1.84)! And let`s not forget about 2008, when we reached our highest recorded average price of $4.01 a gallon for unleaded gas.

The price of gas just keeps dropping. In Louisiana, gas has dropped about 5 cents since last week. Nationally, the average has dropped 8 cents. In some states, they have seen gas prices decline 16 cents in a week. The national average is actually at its lowest mark since February of 2009.

AAA reports that the price of crude oil has dropped more than 70 percent since June of 2014. Experts say it`s due to global and domestic oversupply and economic concerns. Many expect the oil market to start re-balancing in 2016. A lot weighs on the impact of Iranian oil since it will likely re-enter the market.

So, enjoy the low prices while they last.
