NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – At last, the secret is out!  The REX organization has revealed the name of this year’s King of Carnival.

His Majesty is Mike Kearney, CEO of The Kearney Companies, Inc., a logistics company specializing in the supply chain needs of cargo importers and exporters at the Port of New Orleans.

Mike graduated from De La Salle High School and Tulane University.   He served on the Super Bowl Task Force Commission that brought the first Super Bowl to New Orleans, and he was Chairman of the Mayor’s Sports Advisory Committee.  In addition, Mike served eight years as an officer and director of the New Orleans YMCA.

He’s also an avid tennis player, who told us that playing four or five times a week will help him endure– and enjoy– all the fun-filled events of Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras—the parties, balls, and of course, the Rex parade!

But Mike is not the first person in his immediate family to ascend to a REX throne.  He says he’s been picking up pointers from his daughter, Niquette, who was Queen of Carnival, in 2001.
