Gonzales Police said officers responded Sunday night to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where 21-year-old Tyler Dauzat had brought her 2-year-old because the child’s behavior was extreme and erratic.

She told hospital workers that she didn’t know what was causing the behavior, but a blood screen showed a significant amount of methamphetamine.

The toddler was stabilized and later transferred to the Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric Unit.

Dauzat eventually admitted to investigators that she had a powder form of meth in her purse, and that her child had been left alone in a hotel room in Gonzales with her purse.

Dauzat was arrested and booked into the Ascnension Parish Jail on charges of negligent injuring, cruelty to juveniles, illegal use of controlled dangerous substances in the presence of a juvenile and improper supervision of a minor.

The state Department of Child and Family Services is involved in trying to remove the 2-year-old and Dauzat’s 4-year-old child from her custody.
