MANDEVILLE, La. (WGNO) – Sharks in Lake Pontchartrain are not uncommon, but crew members of Wicked Fishing Charters in Mandeville snagged a rather large bull shark this week.

It’s the first shark caught in Lake Pontchartrain by the company this year.

Wicked Fishing Charters Mandeville said they received a tip that one man had encountered a big shark last Thursday. So the charter company put together a couple of their “Kracken hunting tips.”

“We knew we had a shot to hook the monster,” said the post on the company’s Facebook page.

And they were right. The 5-foot-long shark was caught near Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, according to comments on the Facebook post. It reportedly put up a very exciting battle.

The company said bull sharks are not to be taken lightly. They have tagged and released about 15 sharks over the last three years. The current shark they reeled in was not tagged.
