NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A new CVS Pharmacy opened Thursday in the Lower Ninth Ward to a grand celebration. Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other city officials welcomed the opening of the store at 5000 N Claiborne Avenue.
It’s the first major retailer to open in the area since Hurricane Katrina, nearly 11 years ago.
The store is expected to bring about 20 new jobs to the community.
The ribbon cutting began at 9:30 a.m.
A $15,000 donation was presented to the Baptist Community Health Service (BCHS) to support their Chronic Disease Management program.
