PASCAGOULA, Miss. — No injuries reported after an explosion at a natural gas production plant in Pascagoula late Monday night. According to Jackson County Emergency Services Director Earl Etheridge, the explosion happened around 11:30 p.m. at the Enterprise plant in Pascagoula.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire was still burning.

“What happened is we had a release of hydrocarbons ignite at our plant overnight,” Enterprise spokesman Rick Rainey told WLOX. “The resulting fire has diminished quite substantially. The only flame left is residual vapors that are burning off.”

Two workers were at the plant when the explosion happened. But they were not injured.

“Thankfully there were no injuries,” said Rainey. “Our employees are fine. They were inside a protected control room.”

Vibrations from the explosion were felt as far as 10 miles away from the plant on Stennis Blvd.

Pascagoula police released a statement on Facebook, late Monday saying, “[The explosion] is contained to the building. We are working with state and local officials regarding this. There will be no evacuations at this time and there are no injuries.”
