NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans police are trying to find whoever broke into a storage locker and stole thousands of dollars in football and baseball equipment. The case is the latest to roll on the Wheel of Justice.
According to Vic Richard, the CEO of NORDC, the locks were ripped away from the doors of a storage locker at Oliver Bush Playground in the Lower Ninth Ward.
As much as $5,000 in football and baseball equipment was taken. Richard believes the crime happened either Saturday night or Sunday morning.
“A lot of the equipment for our youth programs there was stolen,” Richard said. “Those football helmets are about $100 a pop, $120 a pop. Those are Riddell helmets, some of the best helmets that money can buy.”
The theft comes just as NORDC’s football season begins. The city is checking its inventory and expects to find enough equipment to keep the games going.
