NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The NOPD responded to four shootings this afternoon, including one instance where officers were targeted, as gunfire erupted across New Orleans.

The first incident happened just after noon in the 2200 block of St. Andrew Street. Responding officers found one male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Less than one hour later, officers were shot at near the intersection of Annette and Law Streets. In that incident, officers attempting to stop a vehicle came under fire when the car’s occupants jumped out of the vehicle and opened fire.

No officers were hurt in the incident, and the NOPD set up a perimeter in the area to catch the suspects. By 3:30 p.m., two of the three suspects had been caught, according to NOPD Public Information Officer Aaron Looney, while two male suspects were still at large.

Louisiana State Police are assisting NOPD Special Operations officers at the scene of that shooting, Looney said.

Just after 1:30 p.m., the NOPD was called out to a murder in Mid City. A 40-year-old male victim was shot near the corner of North Galvez and Canal Streets.

Responding officers found him lying in the neutral ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transferred to the nearby University Medical Center, where he later died.

Minutes after the Canal Street shooting, officers were called to the 4800 block of Majestic Oaks in New Orleans East, where one male victim had been shot. Details on that shooting have yet to be released.

Early Sunday morning, 10 people were shot on Bourbon Street as the Bayou Classic wound down. An armed robbery suspect shot at NOPD officers yesterday, kicking off a scary and violent stretch for the NOPD.
