NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The NOPD has arrested a man accused of kidnapping a woman while he was robbing her home.

Police say Clarence Cobbs broke into a home in the 1100 block of Chimney Wood Lane in New Orleans East around 5:15 a.m. December 18.

Cobbs entered the home through an unlocked window, and started to search for cash, according to the NOPD.

When an unidentified woman who lives in the house Cobbs was burglarizing woke up, Cobbs forced the victim into her car and forced her to drive to two different gas stations in an attempt to get cash from her debit card.

The victim tried to escape at the first gas station, so Cobbs forced her into the trunk of her car, according to the NOPD.

After the second stop, the victim was eventually able to escape, placing a call to police at a nearby business.

Cobbs was arrested after he returned to the victim’s house to retrieve his belongings, according to the NOPD.

Cobbs was arrested, charged with aggravated kidnapping, and booked into Central Lockup.
