NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A tearful apology in federal court Thursday afternoon from former technology chief Greg Meffert.

Meffert was sentenced to 30 months or two and a half years in prison.

“I’m sorry for all the actions and decisions I made all those years ago.  I lost everything I had.  I lost the ability to provide for my family.  I lost my name.  The hundreds of thousands of articles on google will follow me for the rest of my life but I’m sorry the most because I was wrong.”

“There’s no story out there that can paint me worse than how I feel myself,” Meffert said before he learned his fate.

Meffert was a key figure in the corruption case against former mayor Ray Nagin. He faced 8 years in prison but received less than half for cooperating with the investigators.

Meffert’s sentencing comes just days before Nagin heads to prison on Monday.
