BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) – Public schools in Louisiana are slowly improving, according to 2013-2014 school report cards released Tuesday by the State Department of Education.
The report cards which feature school and district performance scores and letter grades can be viewed HERE.
The number of schools earning an A went up “modestly” by 54 schools statewide, and no school system failed in 2014, but schools in the New Orleans area still have work to do.
Of more than 80 schools managed under the Recovery School District and the Orleans Parish Public School Board, about 26 of them received a D or an F.
In Tangipoha Parish 13 out of 33 public schools received a D and 2 schools received an F.
Schools in St. Tammany and Jefferson Parish received mostly A’s and B’s.
“The release of School Performance Scores and Letter Grades demonstrates that our schools and students continue to excel in the face of more rigorous standards and increasing expectations,” Recovery School District Superintendent Patrick Dobard said.
“Each year we see the number of failing schools in the Recovery School District decrease statewide and this year was no exception. I am proud of the progress our students, teachers, and principals are making and confident that they will continue to perform above and beyond expectations in years to come.”
