NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A man known for cleaning up the French Quarter after Hurricane Katrina was a victim of a burglary last week (Dec. 10).
“My fiancé was at home asleep while a criminal was wandering inside my son’s bedroom,” Sidney Torres, IV said.
Security videos show a man drive up to Torres’ home on Esplanade Avenue around 5:30 a.m. in a dark-colored Infinity Q45.
Police said the man jumped the locked gate and wandered inside the home for awhile before leaving with a 60″ television monitor.
Videos also show the man struggling to hoist the monitor over an iron fence, and a Good Samaritan helping the suspect.
The suspect is described as a white male, 5’10″ with tattoos on his wrist and neck.
Sidney Torres, IV is offering an $8,000 Crimestoppers reward for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect.
“The French Quarter is our city’s crown jewel,” Torres said. “I have been very involved in cleaning up the French Quarter and I know this is a fixable problem.”
