NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Warren Easton wide receiver Tyron Johnson will make his college announcement Friday at the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game.

He is the most coveted prospect in the State of Louisiana and although he announced Texas Tech and Oklahoma State as his top two choices, Johnson very much has LSU on his radar.

In a summer interview, Easton head coach Tony Hull said Johnson may choose a school that would surprise many. Why? Because he is a very independent thinker.

“He could have easily gone to St. Augustine or McDonogh 35, but he wanted to be a trailblazer. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did the same thing when choosing a college,” Hull said referring to Johnson.

Johnson plays the game with personality like his leap over a Neville defender in the state championship game. He also scored the touchdown that sent Warren Easton to the Superdome. With no timeouts and less than 30 seconds to play, Johnson scored on the speed sweep to win it.

One college head coach will be a happy man Friday evening when Tyron Johnson makes his official announcement.

Tyron Johnson of Warren Easton is this week’s New Orleans Voodoo Athlete of the Week.
