NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department has discovered building material they believe was stolen from a construction site over the weekend.

An initial report from the NOPD says $300,000 worth of large steel beams were reported stolen from the 3800 block of Howard Avenue on Saturday (May 20).

Investigation revealed said two men were seen entering the construction site in a semi-truck pulling a flatbed trailer and a white Dodge pickup truck. They allegedly used heavy machinery to put the beams onto the flatbed trailer before leaving.

On May 23, the NOPD says the materials along with numerous stolen items, were reportedly found at Uptown Recycling at 1320 S. Claiborne Avenue. NOPD officers have teamed up with the City of New Orleans Code Enforcement Agency, Louisiana State Police and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to assist with this investigation.

Anyone with information about the theft can call NOPD Sixth District detectives at (504)-658-6060 or Crime Stoppers at (504)-822-1111.
