GRETNA, La. (WGNO) – Neither Terry Speaks or Margaret Sanchez appeared in Jefferson Parish Court Wednesday. Both of their attorneys waived their presence for that day, but they may see each other for Speaks’ sentencing next month, due to some date changes.

Sanchez’s trial date was supposed to be set Wednesday, but her attorney got caught up in another hearing and couldn’t attend. So, her court date was rescheduled to July 9. The sentencing date for Speaks, Sanchez’s alleged accomplice and then boyfriend, was also moved on Wednesday from July 8 to July 9, as well. So an interesting twist, it is possible their paths will cross at his sentencing.

Speaks and Sanchez are accused of the brutal murder of Bourbon Street dancer Jaren Lockhart. Lockhart went missing three years ago. Her body parts were later found ashore beaches in Mississippi. The trial for Speaks only lasted five days and he was found “guilty” on all counts against him for his part in the murder

It’s unclear how long or short Sanchez’s trial will be. WGNO will bring you continuous coverage of that trial, posting live updates here on our website.
