NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A double shooting in New Orleans East Wednesday morning left one man dead, one wounded, and another arrested, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Around 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 30, NOPD officers say they were alerted of a shooting near the corner of Hayne Boulevard and Arcadia Lane. Officers later learned the victims drove off in a pickup truck, stopping at the I-10 Service and Read Boulevard.

Responding officers say the two 30-year-old men were found each suffering from a gunshot wound, one to the body and the other to the hand.

They were taken to a local hospital by EMS where one died from his injuries. The second victim’s condition was said to be non-life threatening.

Through an investigation, the NOPD was able to identify the alleged shooting as 18-year-old Guillermo Valladares. He was arrested near the scene of the shooting.

Valladares has been booked on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Rosendo Mendez on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
