NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – St. Bernard Parish is a place where the Nuss name is still cherished. Bobby Nuss was a coach, a husband, a father of six, and a leader in the parish.

Nuss was a St. Aloysius graduate as well as a football captain at Tulane University. Eventually, he became the head coach of the Chalmette Owls football team in 1971.

Seven years later Nuss led the Owls to a 9-1 regular season and an outright district title. While at Chalmette Nuss coached several future stars, including future Denver Broncos quarterback Norris Weese. Nuss also led the Owls to several district track titles and seemed to excel in everything he did.

25 years after his passing, Bobby Nuss is still an iconic name in St. Bernard Parish.
