NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – At Slidell high school, when it came to naming the stadium, there was only one choice.
LV McGinty was the principal at Slidell high school for 40 years. He also coached the Tigers to their two state football championships, both class B titles in 1944 and 1945.
St Tammany parish school Superintendent Trey Folse is a Slidell high grad, class of 1977. His junior year was McGinty`s final as principal.
“Probably the thing I remember most is how well respected he was, by everyone. Even though we knew it was his last year, everyone had immense respect for him, and everything he stood for, and we knew how much Slidell high meant to him. For us, he was a legend”
Coach McGinty also coach the Tigers to a return trip to the championship game in 1946.
He was a graduate of Northwestern State, who moved to Slidell in 1931. He remained until his passing in January of 1991.
“It was one thing everybody was for. No one thought it wasn`t a great idea to name it for” Folse said.
