NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Don’t say a word to Santa about what you’re about to see.

He might just sell his sleigh or trade it in.  In the lobby of Hyatt Regency New Orleans is a streetcar made from gingerbread.  That’s right, a streetcar made of just gingerbread.

It’s built from 1,000 full sheet pans of gingerbread baked in the kitchen of Hyatt Regency New Orleans Executive Chef Eric Damidot and his holiday team.

The streetcar is eight feet tall, five feet wide and 16 feet long.

WGNO News with a Twist features reporter Wild Bill Wood says this gingerbread dessert is for your eyes only.

If you’re ready for it, here’s the recipe for the giant gingerbread streetcar:

2,000 pounds of butter

3,000 pounds of sugar

3,000 eggs

3,000 pounds of flour

70 liters of molasses

30 pounds of cinnamon powder

10 pounds of ground ginger

10 pounds of ground cloves

The giant gingerbread streetcar is ready for you to take a look.  It’s on the third floor of Hyatt Regency New Orleans.

Here’s the address for Hyatt Regency New Orleans:

601 Loyola Avenue

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, 70113

504 561 1234

It’s just part of the hotel’s celebration of what it calls “Christmas New Orleans Style”.

Chef Eric Damidot says it will be up  and “running” on the hotel’s third floor until after Christmas.
