NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — All eyes are on the Mississippi River. So, what’s going on with the river levels? Should folks be worried?

As of this point, no, but as we continue with our El Nino winter, rising waters could significantly affect shipping and industrial activities.

The Mississippi River at Baton Rouge is about 3′ below flood stage right now, but over the next two weeks is expected to rise to 44′.

The levees would be impacted, but one spot that is being affected by flooding is the Pearl River in Bogalusa, that will reach 20′, two feet above flood stage Thursday and bring water into the Bogue Chitto Wildlife Management area, pushing water into camps and access roads.
