NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — As the Carnival Season begins to ramp up, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced victim service providers and partners will host the second annual Operation Mardi Gras Hub.
According to leaders with the OPSO, the hub initially launched during last year’s Mardi Gras and serves as a place for any victim or survivor of a violent crime to get immediate support and resources during the busiest carnival weekends.
The Operation Mardi Gras Hub is a central location operated by the Greater New Orleans victim service providers and partners at the New Orleans Family Justice Center located at 701 Loyola Ave.
The multi-agency initiative includes the OPSO, the New Orleans Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security, the New Orleans Family Justice Center, Silence is Violence, Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response and Military.
The hub’s schedule is as follows:
- Jan. 28 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Feb. 2 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Feb. 3 from10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Feb. 4 from10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Feb. 7 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Feb. 8 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Feb. 9 from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
- Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
- Feb. 12 from 5 p.m. to 12 p.m.
- Feb. 13 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Anyone who becomes a victim of crime can first call 911 to report the crime to police. Then they can call or visit the central hub at the NOFJC to get immediate support. Providers can be reached by calling (504)-355-0846 or the 24-hour helpline (504)-866-9554.
