NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A matchup between the best in Division III and Division IV Select headlined a loaded field Saturday at the Booker T. Washington Classic.

A total team effort powered the Newman Greenies to a 65-49 win over Crescent City.

Chris Cenac Jr., Todd Jones, and Chris Birden Jr. each scored 15 points in the win. Crescent City’s Dwight Magee finished with a game-high 20 points.

Newman hosts Liberty Tuesday night while Crescent City travels to St. Martin’s.

Following that matchup was another heavyweight bout between Ponchatoula, the defending Division I Non-Select state champions, and Peabody.

A strong first-quarter surge behind Santa Clara signee Allen Graves gave the Green Wave a 28-8 lead over the Warhorses.

Ponchatoula would handle business the rest of the way for an 86-57 win over Peabody.

The Green Wave are back in action Tuesday night against Slidell.
