LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — An 18-year-old was arrested after allegedly making threats toward students on Snapchat.

According to the Thibodaux Police Department, on Tuesday, Feb. 6, officers were called to Edward Douglas White High School on Cardinal Drive on a report of threats being made via social media.

Upon arrival, officers learned that multiple students had allegedly received violent threats from 18-year-old Xavier Smith.

Further investigation led officers to determine that Smith wasn’t in Lafourche Parish, but instead, in Venice, where he was arrested by the Plaquemine Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team.

Smith was charged with terrorizing and was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on a $250,000 bond.

Officers said the incident remains under investigation as more charges may be filed.
