METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — For the second year in a row, Brandon Russ has led Crescent City to 20 wins, a district 10-1A title, and the top of the Division IV select power rankings but the Pios have their sights set on a bigger goal in 2024.
“Our plan is to get to the state championship this year. That’s our ultimate goal and I have the group of guys to do it. So, we’re going to push and we’re going to keep fighting. We’re going to keep working, keep getting better every day,” said Crescent City head basketball coach Brandon Russ.
A roster that contains two sophomores, four juniors, and one senior sits at 20-5 on the year.
Four of their losses were to defending state champions in bigger classifications.
After falling in the semi-finals last year, Coach Russ made it a point to play a challenging schedule in 2024 that would prepare his team for a state title run.
“We see that we could compete with almost any team in the state of Louisiana. In our division, we don’t see too many teams as tough as the teams we’ve played this year. So, that’s what we were trying to stack up against to see the different kinds of competition we could play against,” said Russ.
The Pios’ final regular season challenge will be Bonnabel Thursday night.
