NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A man believed to have entered five homes in the Uptown area last weekend and watched women sleeping is now in custody after police caught him inside a home Thursday morning.

Around 3:30 a.m., the NOPD received a call of a suspicious person breaking into a home in the 800 block of Pine Street. When police arrived, they discovered 22-year-old Oliver Jerde inside the home removing items.

After searching Jerde’s home located in the 800 block of Lowerline, detectives found several items reported stolen from the home invasions earlier in the week, according to police.

Based on the evidence gathered, police booked Jerde with the following incidents:

  • Aggravated Burglary in the 1000 block of Lowerline reported on January 17, 2016;
  • Aggravated Burglary in the 1200 block of Lowerline reported on January 17, 2016;
  • Residential Burglary in the 800 block of Pine Street reported on January 21, 2016.

The investigation is on-going, and detectives are currently investigating Jerde’s involvement in similar crimes reported in the area.

Five homes were broken into on Friday, January 15 – January 18. Those home invasions happened in the 7600 block of Oak Street, 1700 block of S. Carrollton, and two on Lowerline — in the 1000 block and 1200 block, and in the 1100 block of Broadway Street.

In each home invasion case, authorities say the suspect seemed to have targeted college-age women and would get into their homes through an unlocked window, door or a broken window pane.
