NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Each carnival season in homes and businesses, on street corners and parade routes, you’ll hear a familiar debate.  A topic so contentious, it divides family and friends.

Is the New Orleans Pelicans “King Cake Baby” mascot creepy or cute?

According to just about every single article on the internet, national media agree he’s the most terrifying mascot in all of sports:

“You’ll never go to sleep again”- Bleacher Report

“King Cake Baby is back to haunt your dreams”- USA Today

But he’s not all bad, is he?

Some New Orleans locals find the baby’s over-sized head, bulging eyeballs and droopy diaper…. well… rather charming.  A Twitter poll from GMNO anchor Anne Cutler showed a surprising number found him “cute.”

However, many MANY others did not.

If you’d like to meet King Cake Baby and decide for yourself, he’s stopping by Rouse’s on Baronne in downtown New Orleans, Friday from 12-1.  The store will be offering “treats and prizes.”
