NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Dr. April Noble is the assistant chair of physical science. Noble said the sphere of what students can study in CHEM Tech is diverse.
“We open those instruments up so they can see all the pieces. They have to learn how to use the program that operates the instrument itself. We have also have analytical and organic chemistry where they analyze different compounds, all things chemistry .. and we love to tie that to what is going on in the everyday world.”
One of the more interesting studies is gas chromotography. Noble said in a hit-and-run analysis of the pain can tell what kind of car hit another.
“We can use paint. We can tell color of paint and where it came from. We would need a specific catalog and we can say if it is a BMW, versus from Toyota.”
Science lab technicians are hired by many major companies.
