NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Edna Karr entered the Division I Selection Regional Round off a bye week in the playoffs opening round, thanks to winning their last four games and 13 of their last 15 games.
However, two of the Cougars 24 regular-season wins were against St. Augustine. Karr escaped with a four-point victory last time the Purple Knights and Cougars faced off, and Tuesday night was more of the same.
Karr dominated the first half: holding St. Aug to 14 points and holding a 16-point lead at the break, but the Purple Knights surged in the third quarter, shrinking the Cougars’ lead down to seven points in the final quarter.
Karr entered the fourth up 37-30 and only scored eight points in the last eight minutes. However, Tyrone Wilson’s team-high 12 points (including a game-sealing floater with less than two minutes remaining) lifted the Cougars to a six-point playoff victory.
