NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Watch every Thursday morning as WhereYat.com and Where Y’at Magazine bring the top picks of great things to do in the beautiful city of New Orleans.
Happy Leap Day…an extra day of the year that won’t happen again until 2028. And what better way to enjoy a weekend with a lagniappe day than by viewing fine art, classical ballet and even wiener dog races. Here are Where Y’at’s picks!
Some of this weekend’s events include:
- Enjoy tonight’s opening reception of the art show “Ancestral Kitchens: From Seed to Infinite” by Chef Jas at the Ace Hotel…with an edible altar. Then grab dinner after the reception next door at Seaworthy. This multi-sensory culinary installation, on display through April, is a must-see.
- Next, looking to make home improvements…or to get your garden ready for spring? The 67th Annual New Orleans Home & Garden Show starts tomorrow and runs thru this weekend at the Convention Center. Attendees can view the latest in gardening features, home appliances, and much more.
- Calling all weenie dog lovers! The Fair Grounds Race Course hosts its annual Wiener Dog Races on Saturday. Pre-registered dogs will compete in a thrilling 30-yard dash, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners sharing $1000 in cash and prizes! Kids aged 12 & under are free.
- Finally, the New Orleans Ballet Association will host Les Ballets de Monte Carlo’s LAC (Swan Lake) at the Mahalia Jackson Theater on Saturday night…a visually stunning retelling of Swan Lake…in what will be the one and only schedule performance of this masterpiece in the United States.
