HARAHAN, La. (WGNO) –– Attorneys for Bunnak Landon, the woman accused of murdering a child and leaving her body in a bucket on the child’s mother’s lawn, appeared in court Wednesday.

Landon is charged with first-degree murder and obstruction of justice in the death of 6-year-old Bella Fontenelle.

Prosecutors have requested a subpoena for Landon’s former attorney, R. Christian Bonin, who had previously defended Landon in a misdemeanor simple battery case.

The motion details how Landon’s sister emailed Bonin, disclosing the location of Landon’s cell phone, allegedly buried in another yard nearby after the murder.

The prosecution requested the court to subpoena Bonin to give a complete narrative of how the phone was located in an effort to prove the search and seizure was lawful and constitutional.

They also argue that attorney-client privilege does not cover physical evidence or communications between Bonin and Landon’s sister.

During a bench conference with Judge Nancy Miller, attorneys discussed the need for a subpoena. Miller deferred the motions until a March 7 hearing and called for Bonin to appear in court voluntarily.
