HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — Deputies with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office are looking to find a Hammond woman who’s accused of running a pet deposit scam.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said 30-year-old Sara Jacy Saucier allegedly offered to sell letters signed by a psychologist to tenants at the Creek’s Apartment Complex, giving tenants who owned pets the ability to call their pets “emotional support animals.”
According to the TPSO, Saucier told tenants that the letters would be half the cost of the pet deposit.
Edwards said it was later found that the letters were “signed by her and not an actual doctor.”
Saucier, who was reportedly employed at the apartment complex at the time of the scam, allegedly took money from 15 tenants.
Edwards said warrants were later issued for Saucier’s arrest on 15 counts of misdemeanor theft, 15 counts of illegal transmission of monetary funds and 15 counts of forgery.
