NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – “We don’t eat meat on Ash Wednesday so we came in to get dinner for the family,” says Amy Calamusa.

“Demand right now is high, so that’s basically what’s going on. The price always go up this time of year and people do get discouraged, but it’s expected,” says Clint St. Philip with Captain Sid’s Seafood.

And while the seafood prices are going up with demand, meat prices are staying the same, as demand for chicken, pork and beef, during Lent is few and far between. Especially on Fridays.

“We’ll cut back on our production of fresh meats and start promoting local seafood. We’ll cut back maybe 25% you know,” says Pat Moore with Chris’s Specialty Meats.

So for now, it’s all about the mud bugs.
