NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – It’s a social ride unlike any other and the weekly “Get Up and Ride Social Ride” was an idea that started with just three friends.
“We always rode our bikes and whatnot because we stayed in the downtown area. In this area in the Bywater/Marigny area. So one day we thought we would join up and invite people,” says co-founder Nick Reed.
Tuesday night’s Social Ride has since then blossomed.
The number of bikers varies, but the vibe is one that continues to rock the Marigny.
Biking with this group is free.
They meet up in front of Hi-Ho Lounge on the corner of St. Claude Avenue and Marigny Street each Tuesday around 7 p.m. and then hit the road around 8 p.m.
“It’s really to see all the people laughing and having a good time. It’s also good cardio, and now the weather is absolutely beautiful,” says social ride participant herc-@-weve.
The route varies week-to-week as well, but you’ll be biking roughly 20 miles total.
The good news: there are a few stops on the radar, a chance for riders to socialize and catch their breath before gearing up for the next mile or so. Until finally heading back to the Marigny for the big finish.
“Just getting a group of people out to ride is awesome. Just seeing the city riding our bikes with the wind through our hair, it’s really good,” says social tide participant Kia Dorsey.
