NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Watch every Thursday morning as WhereYat.com and Where Y’at Magazine bring the top picks of great things to do in the beautiful city of New Orleans.

April is one of my favorite months because of the fantastic spring festivals. This first weekend in April kicks off with a bang with Hogs for the Cause, but also festivals for bike enthusiasts, art lovers, and even a mud fest for kids. Here are Where Y’at’s picks!

Some of this weekend’s events include:

  • Bike lovers won’t want to miss this weekend’s Cycle Zydeco. This “festival on wheels” is a celebration of food, live music, and, of course, cycling around Southeast Louisiana. Cycle Zydeco allows fest-goers to bike to many attractions around the state. It runs through Sunday, so visit CycleZydeco.org for more details!
  • Next, there’s no better place to watch and celebrate horror movies than in our haunted city. The Overlook Film Festival is a chance for scary movie lovers to gather for a terrifying time filled with screams. The four-day fest starts tonight and at the Prytania Theatres both uptown and in Canal Place.
  • Kids: It’s time to get muddy at Mud Fest…happening on Saturday at the Louisiana Children’s Museum in City Park. Dive into all things mud-related, including decorating your own mud cakes and cookies, or crawling through a muddy obstacle course!
  • Finally, don’t miss the Arts District of New Orleans’ Jammin’ on Julia this Saturday night. This art walk goes through the district’s member galleries and museums. There’ll be different live musical acts, as well as special exhibition openings. Visit the Arts District of New Orleans’ website for more information.
