BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana is set to see a partial eclipse on Monday, April 8.

The partial eclipse will begin at 12:28 p.m. with maximum coverage at 1:48 p.m. The eclipse will end at 3:08 p.m.

Louisiana State Police tells drivers not to stop on the road to watch the partial eclipse.

“Sudden stops can cause collisions and endanger the safety of all drivers on the road. It is important to find a safe location to pull over, such as a rest area or parking lot, to view the eclipse safely,” LSP said.

Troopers cited Louisiana law, saying “no person shall stop, park, or leave standing any unattended vehicle on any state highway or interstate shoulder unless necessary by an emergency or at the direction of a Law Enforcement Officer.”

Troopers said to be ready for “sudden low light conditions” if you are driving during the partial eclipse, suggesting that drivers turn on their headlights while the eclipse is happening.

Drivers are asked to be alert and pay attention while on the road during the eclipse.

“Avoid distractions, wear your seat belt, and reduce your speed in high traffic areas,” LSP said.

LSP said to dial *LSP (*577) to contact the nearest Troop or call 911 if drivers have issues while on the road.

Here are some suggestions for places to watch the eclipse in and around Baton Rouge.
