NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Watch every Thursday morning as WhereYat.com and Where Y’at Magazine bring the top picks of great things to do in the beautiful city of New Orleans.

New Orleans is a multinational city that’s a gumbo of cultures – drawing newcomers, and their traditions, from all over the world. Get ready to celebrate Hispanic, French and even Croatian customs: here are Where Y’at’s weekend picks.

Some of this weekend’s events include:

  • First, enjoy a musical lunch with Latin rhythms tomorrow, as the French Market is hosting their Hispanic Heritage Series – a live concert with the Julio & Cesar Duo from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free Friday concert series features a variety of bands through May 17.
  • Next, fans of French wines – Briquette Restaurant in the Warehouse District is hosting a fine champagne and French wine dinner tomorrow night. Savor five delicious courses, such as seared scallops, with different pairings. Book reservations by calling Briquette or online via Open Table.
  • Ever wanted to take a trip to Croatia? Then visit the Croatian Fest on Saturday in Belle Chasse. Celebrate Croatian culture by tasting traditional foods including grilled calamari and roasted lamb…all served with a side of music performed by Croatian musicians. Croatian Fest runs until 10 p.m.
  • Finally, on Saturday night, enjoy ballet with a splash of New Orleans rhythm and blues. NOBA presents Parsons Dance with the Allen Toussaint Orchestra this Saturday evening at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. Expect joyous, high-voltage dance performed to a soundtrack of Allen Toussaint hits.

Get ready for the granddaddy of all festivals: next week is the start of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. For a full preview, pick up the new Jazz Fest Weekend One issue of Where Y’at Magazine, complete with schedules, maps, and picks of the fest, at locations all over town.
