MANDEVILLE, La. (WGNO) –  Her name is Emily Roche.  She’s a 12-year old from Mandeville, and the world is about to watch her compete on Food Network’s Chopped Junior.

WGNO News with a Twist features reporter Wild Bill Wood went to Emily Roche’s school.

It’s not the kind of school where you find most 12-year-olds.  This school is a cooking school.  It’s called Culinary Kids.

You’ll see how this is the place where Emily got her chops ready for Chopped Junior.

Emily appears on Chopped on Tuesday,  May 10 at 7 p.m.

The show is called Quail Quest.  The menu is really a mix!

In the first round featuring rock shrimp and beef tongue, the junior chefs are really nice to her at first.  They’re willing to be friends and help each other out. That’s how things start out.

Then the competition heats up, right along with the cooking.

Somebody has to be chopped from Chopped.

The judges are Maneet Chauhan, actor Rico Rodriguez and Fabio Viviani.

They’ve got keen eyes on the kids as they move on and into their second basket of goodies.  The kids get quail and a variety of tiny foods, and then come their desserts.  It’s a very groovy cake that makes the dessert round extra colorful.
