NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Watch every Thursday morning as WhereYat.com and Where Y’at Magazine bring the top picks of great things to do in the beautiful city of New Orleans.

You start me up: Jazz Fest returns today with the Rolling Stones. While you can’t always get what you want if you try sometimes, you’ll also find symphony music with New Orleans bounce, a Star Wars festival, and Cinco de Mayo fiestas! Here are Where Y’at’s weekend picks:

Some of this weekend’s events include:

  • First, get ready to bounce with New Orleans icon Big Freedia and the LPO tonight at the Orpheum Theater. Big Freedia is known for her energy that gets the crowd dancing, and last year’s concert sold out. Showtime is 8 p.m.; get your tickets while they are still available.
  • Next, calling all Star Wars fans: May the 4th – or the “force” – be with you! Head to downtown Houma on Saturday to celebrate Star Wars at the free May the 4th Festival. This festival is a Star Wars lover’s dream, filled with food, live music, and inter-galactic costumes.
  • Cinco de Mayo enthusiasts: don’t miss Cinco de Mayo Fest in Fat City Park. This fest is now two days…both Saturday as well as Sunday, May 5th…with performances from Lonestar Luchador, Mannie Fresh, and others…along with options for all-you-can-eat tacos.
  • Finally, if you are looking for a restaurant to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Felipe’s Taqueria is muy bien! With locations all over town, they’ll have live music, Lucha Libre Mexican Wrestling, and more. Felipe’s is known for their award-winning cuisine, and will also be offering margarita specials.

Pick up the new Jazz Fest Weekend Two issue of Where Y’at Magazine, complete with schedules, maps, and picks of the fest, at locations all over town. And watch WGNO to catch me, live from the Fair Grounds, with up-to-date info on all the Jazz Fest action.
