NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Louisiana’s legislative body has approved House Concurrent Resolution 127 (HCR127), honoring the valor and sacrifice of the brave Louisianans who perished on June 6, 1944, during the historic D-Day invasion in Normandy, France.
Spearheaded by Representative Charles Owen (R-30), this resolution pays homage to these courageous individuals’ spirit and unwavering bravery, whose actions on that pivotal day left an indelible mark on history.
Amidst the tumultuous waters of the North Atlantic, the treacherous sands of Normandy’s beaches, and the perilous skies above, these Louisianans exemplified courage and dedication to duty. HCR127 underscores the profound significance of their sacrifice, ensuring that their names will be forever enshrined in Louisiana’s collective memory.
World War II, the largest and deadliest conflict in human history, claimed the lives of over 400,000 American servicemen and women, including those from Louisiana. United in alliance with other nations, the United States stood against tyranny, ultimately prevailing to secure freedom for millions worldwide.
Louisiana, with its proud tradition of military service, sent thousands of its sons to fight on foreign shores. From Rapides to Iberia, Orleans to Franklin, and Ascension to Caddo, brave men answered the call to arms, ready to confront the challenges ahead.
