NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is trying to identify and locate a man who is accused of two thefts involving the same car within a matter of minutes. The case is the latest one to roll on the Wheel of Justice.
According to police, the thefts happened around 6:23 in the morning on May 23 near the corner of North Bernadotte and St. Louis streets. Police also released security camera footage that shows much of what happened.
In the video, a Kia sedan is seen in the middle of the street while the driver is looking inside a parked car. Then, the driver returns to the Kia and drives it out of the view of the security camera. Moments later, the suspect returns to the area and burglarizes a car by breaking one of its windows. According to police, the thief stole a purse.
After the suspect returns to the Kia and drives away, he is recorded on the same security camera returning to the scene on foot. Only about five minutes had passed from the time he broke into the car. This time, according to police, the suspect stole the car he’d burglarized just minutes before.
As for the Kia that the thief was initially seen driving in the video, police say it was also stolen.
