NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The Mercedes-Benz Superdome will turn orange tonight (June 2) to bring awareness and help stop gun violence around the nation.
It’s the second year for National Gun Violence Awareness Day, which encourages people to wear orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others.
The movement began in a Chicago high school as a way to honor the life of a 15-year-old girl who was shot and killed. It has now grown nationwide.
The Empire State Building will also be lite orange tonight along with events in Chicago and across the U.S.
How to celebrate
Organizers suggest you gather with friends and family at a landmark and share an orange selfie.
Also, everyone can get involved with and support Wear Orange partners. For more information click here.
