NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry announced on Tuesday, July 2 his appointment for the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans.

Two-time Tulane University graduate Joseph F. Toomy previously held the position of chairman over the board from 2009 to 2014 and again in 2019 after being appointed by former Gov. John Bel Edwards. Prior to that, he was also a part of Louisiana State Legislature from 1984 to 2008.

Toomey says it is a privilege to be a part of the leadership team and wants to continue working toward creating more opportunities for the citizens.

“In order to maintain its role as a major economic driver for our region and state, the Port of New Orleans must effectively utilize its resources to remain competitive in international commerce. As we embark on hiring a permanent CEO, it is critical that our primary focus continue to be the development of the Louisiana International Terminal and its Transportation Corridor in order for Louisiana to remain competitive with Ports in other states,” said Toomy.
