NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Get ready for another hot weekend with daily afternoon storms.

Daytime highs will reach the mid to upper 90s, with heat indices or “feels like” temperatures soaring to between 108 and 112 degrees. It’s going to be extremely hot, so be sure to stay hydrated and avoid being outside during peak heat hours if you can.

Don’t expect much relief at night either. Temperatures will remain uncomfortably warm, making it harder to cool down.

Coastal storms will fade by mid-morning tomorrow, with showers and storms developing inland throughout the day. These storms could be heavy at times, leading to potential flash flooding, especially in urban areas.

The current Heat Advisory has been extended through Sunday. This means the dangerous heat levels will continue, and it’s important to take precautions. If the high heat persists, there may be an Excessive Heat Warning issued next week.

While the intense heat and daily storms are the main story for now, there is some hope for relief. Models suggest that by the end of the week, a weather pattern change could bring slightly cooler temperatures.

Heat Safety Tips:

  • Stay Indoors: Try to stay in air-conditioned places as much as possible.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Check on Others: Look out for those who are vulnerable, like the elderly and young children.
  • Know the Signs of Heat Illness: Symptoms include dizziness, headache, muscle cramps, and nausea. Seek medical help if you or someone else shows these signs.
