The pride of the West Bank will no longer be playing his football on Poydras Street.
The Saints cut cornerback Keenan Lewis Friday. ESPN first reported the news. ESPN quoted Lewis as saying he didn’t get along with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
Lewis, who played his high school football at O. Perry Walker, had hip surgery after last season. He played only six games in 2015. Lewis was activated from the physically unable to perform list early in training camp. But, he practiced only one day, and did not practice again.
Lewis said his goodbyes to Saints fans on his instagram account Friday.
“”I would like to thank New Orleans and all my fans. It’s been an awesome journey,” he wrote. “I’m glad I had the opportunity to play for the city I grew up in and love. Thank you and see y’all soon. Hope y’all still cheer for me.”
Lewis said he will be healthy in a couple of weeks.
